Iskra and C3-Series

Listed here are all known domestic Soviet electronic calculators which are Iskra and Svetlana C3 series.. Electromechanical calculators, and calculators from other series (Iskra, B3, MK) can be found on the relevant index pages. Each calculator shown here has a dedicated page with larger images and more information. If you have information about a calculator not present on this list, or further information about one that is, or corrections to data already here, I would appreciate hearing from you!

Iskra

Iskra means "Spark"

Currently, many of the machines are known only by their model number. A few are in captivity - the others are identified from references in books. This site deals only with calculators, but the Iskra-226, for example,

"...was something you'd call a minicomputer / personal computer mix. It could be small or big. I used a minimal configuration with a big, big block, big 17" green-and-black monitor, and two huge 8" drives (it took an entire half of a living room). As I remember it, the only way to work with I226 was to download BASIC from a floppy 8", which took about 5 minutes. That's what I call slow! "
- Greg Escov

Iskra

The Iskra machines are very strange-looking, and almost certainly not copies of western machines. Iskra is better known as the maker of computers, not of calculators.

A fascinating function on this calculator is the /P/ absolute sqrt(x2 + y2) function, not found on western calculators. All calculations seem to round to the significant decimal places.
