My machine is an Elektronika MK-42, a four function 6.5 x 8.5 x 3 inch calculator needing 220 V 50 Hz current. It is a small desktop model with green fluorescent display, 12 digit capacity and interesting design. I bought it and an Elektronika MK-51 in Tallinn last summer.

I compared it with my western 12 digit calculators (Olympia CD 102, Toshiba, Aurora) but did not find very weird features except the vague feeling when touching the keyboard. It does not, however, have the apostrophes to separate the thousands as its western counterparts. When using the 2 digit accuracy it rounds the result as does Olympia but not Toshiba nor Aurora which only truncate. It is even more accurate than some western calculators when computing in 2 decimals. The negative sign lies at the right. It does not have scientific notation.

In far left there is one place for error or memory information (from top to bottom: dot / horizontal bar / vertical bar) but it does not work. I think that it must be defective for this reason even if I have found no defects in calculations.

Buttons: CM M+ M- RM / x - + % 1/x +/- = C [display of preceding input] and of course the digits and the decimal point.
Switch: full 12 digit accuracy / fixed 2 decimal accuracy
