I was hoping to attend the convention tomorrow, but I am still in the throes of fighting off a heavy cold that struck on Easter Monday and feel that a long drive from West Cumbria to Loughborough and back is not what I need at the moment.

I hope those attending have a good time - please pass on my apologies.

If folk present feel able to raise the subject of making the newsletter available in electronic form, you have my moral support.

Missed seeing you there Dave. The convention went very well. My mirror screw performed to spec... phew...

Jeremy seemed very positive about the prospect of electronic access to the newsletter for those members that want it, but there remains the question of who will organise it. I don't want to second guess Jeremy but I understand a suitable person doesn't necessarily have to live in the UK.

That could be done perfectly for example even from Australia or Thailand.

I have already put forward that offer...that I compile the .pdf version.

I will get in contact with Jeremy and take it from there...any news will be posted in this thread...

I too have offered my services and had a lengthy discussion with Jeremy after the AGM.

An excellent issue,

Cheers.

I've got mine yesterday (I've been in Italy for a week). Indeed this is a great issue.

But I have an understanding problem with the new PIC based colour NBTV decoder: I don't see an output for the sync-signal on the new PCBs. How is the Nipkow-disc (or whatever for a scanner) supposed to be synchronised?

The PIC decoder board (middle) has a sync output. It is close to pin 40 of the PIC, at the edge of the board. There is no wire connected to it in the boards lay out of page 4. It gives a marvellous sync pulse to synchronise your oscilloscope on when testing the colour functions of this board and when testing the RGB LED-drivers board. However there are some minor problems with this sync output when you run the existing NBTV B+W CDs.

For a Nipkow monitor it is a better idea to use the analogue video output signal of the CD player to extract the sync pulse. An existing B+W monitor has this anyway. So upgrading a B+W monitor (the MUTR televisor?) to a colour monitor is something that is made easy with these PCBs.

Thank you, Klaas, now I see it. Cold autumn and winter days are coming soon, so plenty of time for a new project. I'm going to transfer my big televisor with the Peter Yanczer disc into colour. There is plenty of room inside for the PCBs and outside for the adjusting knobs.

Volker, in fact there is no extra adjuster knobs needed. For the monitor in B+W you have all adjustments already, Contrast (= gain) and Brightness (= DC-level). For colour both are one time adjustments, although for Red Green and Blue separately.

The switch over from B+W to and from Colour is automatic. If you like you might include one 3 position switch to
1. display forced always via the B+W video path,
2. display forced via the colour path or
3. switch automatic from colour to and from B+W.

The digital video signals for CCNC are much better defined than they are for B+W, so one time adjustment is more than sufficient.
