Gary,

Am I right in thinking the brushless motors for R/C are low voltage and very high current, say several amps?
In other words matched to NiCad (or their latest equivalent) batteries.

That rather put me off using them.

Indeed they are. I don't mind that myself because I tend to use PC PSUs almost exclusively these days (I can't build a supply for anything like I can pick one of those up). These should handle on of these admirably (FLW).

Like others I initially misunderstood your initial requirement to be for a (heavy) mirror drum and was going to suggest a scooter motor - 300 Watt 24V 15 amp - you can see it running my MDF bead disk elsewhere on this forum - easily done via a PC PSU.

Sorry I was less than clear in my intentions.

For an aperture drum I think I can get away with a smaller motor and employing 1:4 gearing or pulleys.
Experiments are continuing.....
