Narrow-Bandwidth Television Association

I plan on using a T14 Edison bulb with a spiral filament for my televisor's light source. Is it fine for me to use a LED driver for it or do I need a different circuit setup? Thanks.

Jimmy, I suppose the Edison lamp is a neon lamp? Don't try to use a neon lamp. The disc with the small holes takes away so much light, that a neon lamp, which gives any way not so much light, will give you a VERY dim picture. Now that we have high brightness LEDs use them. In the end you will have a very bright "fire" burning behind the disc and still remain a low intensity picture. In my monitor I have 32 amber (orange) High Brightness LEDs in a small rectangle behind the disc. Lots of light, and still ...... It is well visible in a low level lighted room.

It is an incadescent bulb.I wanted to do this just because it would resemble a 1920's style televisor.

It would be impossible to use a incandescent bulb. it does not have fast enough reaction time. Also, you cant use an led driver with any incandescent light source. the original televisor did not have an edison lamp, it had a flat plate neon lamp, and these are extremely hard to come by. i would just use an led array, but on my televisor i used a nixie tube. i would not suggest this, as it is also very dim

Would an LED edison bulb work? I REALLY don't want to solder an array of LEDs.

It all depends on the wattage, the voltage, and the amperage intake of the bulb. it also depends on how close the leds on the bulb are. they must be extremly close. Another thing, you always have to put a difueser inbetween any disk and lightsource.

The light gives off a pretty even glow. I can just use wax paper for a diffuser. The LEDs give off a very bright amber light as well. 4W.

But what is the amperage? I would think that 4 watts would be to powerful. I should also be a small bulb, no bigger than 3 cm. What is the distance between the holes at the end of the spiral on your disk? The light should be about that big. I suppose that the bulb would be 120 or 240 volts, which is to high for any computer or CD player. I think you are talking about a bulb like this, which would be unsuitable.

I will admit I know nothing of soldering so stringing LEDs is out of the question.

Well, neither do I, but I try my hardest with available methods and get along very well.

Another possible light source could be an mini led matrix of of eBay.

My image is about 1 1/4 cm. Wouldn't an LED 8x8 matrix be too much?
