What really hurts is, if I could buy that particular motor here in Australia, it would be at least twice that price...

If you were to order such an item directly from the factory, my assumption is that you would be saddled with significant import duties, even if the item could not be obtained from a domestic source. Everyone trumpets the idea of free trade, but no one seems to like the idea of a mere citizen spending their money elsewhere.
