Just a note to say I enjoyed the day which was well attended and proved there is still interest in the hobby as generally interested in amateur radio is on the decline. Nice to see our cousins from Germany and Spain attending. Well done.

oooooo I forgot about the convention entirely (easy to do from here in the antipodes).

I do hope there are some photos and or a bit of a review coming from someone.

I miss the days when there were NBTV CDs made from video of the convention. They were great.

a very enjoyable day. The show and tell of each item on display worked well although we were a victim of our own success as it became very crowded
in the main display area Those of us with displays that did not require darkness fared better in the refreshment area but all in all avery good turn out

Indeed it was worth again the long way from Germany to join the convention. I took some photos, but had no time until now to put them online. Maybe this evening. Some of the highlights were the "64 lines with 32 lines disk monitor" made by Karen (as described in the last newsletter), the 405 lines transmission via optics by Steve, and Peter's 3D-printed mirror-drum. Of course there were much more new things to see.

Not sure what the verdict will be on the 'new' system of individual presentations being given. But I thought Jeremy did a cracking job in asking useful questions and making comments on the various exhibits as they were described by their owners.

I found the display rooms though - too darn hot!

Yes, you are right. The temperature in the display room was tropical this year. I like the system of individual presentation. In the past I had always the idea I've missed half of the interesting items, now I've learned much more what everybody was showing without waiting for the next newsletter.

Yes, good to see simple and often candid shots. Still find it odd that people are still using discs...they died a decade or more ago, surely? I don't think you can buy the blanks here any more. It doesn't really matter anyway, not one of the four PCs in this house has a drive that can read/write to them.

What's the alternative Steve? Cheap MP3 players are not much chop for NBTV signals.

Any better mp3 player can play Wave-signals. And between an 192 mbit AAC and a CD is no visible difference. The problem is: Who owns a *good* mp3 player? For colour you also need the SPDIF-out, which has practically no MP3-player. So you need a big box PC, or a CD or DVD player. Or you are able to make, like Karen did, your own player using SD-cards.

Yes Volker - all of those things crossed my mind. I'm a PC person myself but I understand why people us CD and DVD players (much easier to carry around than a PC ).

(note: you will notice I deliberately wrote "cheap mp3 player" to peremptorily denounce your first suggestion "affordable" is they key word in the NBTV hobby world )
