I have just tried out Gary Millard's DXFNipkow program to create a 20" Baird 30 line 7:3 disc. The preview looks as it should.
Now, my question is - the dxf file created - can this just be fed into a CNC machine or laser cutter?
I am curious about this because the aluminium supplier where I got my original discs from is CNC and CAD equipped. If it is that simple, then it would appear possible to replicate Baird's Plessey televisor disc in quantity.

Thanks for the info., 'Mr. Cool', my curiosity is satisfied...

Steve A.

A DXF file can be imported into Autocad (which I use/have), but it's the output format required may be the stumbling block...I don't know what a CNC machine might be expecting...I guess best to ask your aluminium supplier what they need in terms of a file format...also the media. Many of these machines, at least older ones here, still use floppies! Though I would suspect probably a USB flash drive...

That jogged my memory you have to convert the DXF to CNC G code

The electromagnetic spectrum has no theoretical limit at either end. If all the mass/energy in the Universe is considered a 'limit', then that would be the only real theoretical limit to the maximum frequency attainable.

Thanks Harry, not having been involved with CNC machines before I had no idea what they required. Is this 'G Code' universal or are there different file-types for different manufacturers of CNC machines?

OK, a quick Google and now I'm a wee bit wiser...
