Quoting myself there. That's the only reason I suggested the above circuits.

Now, if you're happy to operate without some form of reduced voltage to the motor, then that's fine. I will be the first to admit that I haven't built the circuits so I have to conceed that I'm looking at this from an initial design viewpoint. i.e That's how I would start out.

Others obviously have had experience and it would appear that all is well. It just doesn't sit well with me.

P.S. Actually there is a very simple resolution to my concerns...simply put a 5W Zener of (say) 4-6V in series with the motor....something like a 1N5337B (4.7V)....why I never thought of that in the first place is beyond me!!
