Doug Pitt passes

Postby Andrew Davie » Thu Dec 06, 2007 3:42 pm

From the News section of NBTV... I don't know how recent/current this is...

Doug Pitt
It is with great sadness to hear Doug Pitt passed away early today following a short illness. Our thoughts are with Zoë his daughter and family at this time.

I met Doug recently when he hosted the local meeting of NBTVA members.
He was genuinely interested in my modest efforts and encouraged me to cary on collecting period books and magazines of the mechanical era

Despite obvious physical discomfort he was a generous host and shared many anecdotes on vintage mechanical television with his guests.
May I take this oppourtunity to extend my sincere sympathies to his family and friends.

Doug encouraged me greatly in the early days with voluminous hand-written letters full of helpful tips. In more recent years I would get regular telephone calls from him (the last one was about a month ago) asking how I was doing and generally chatting about NBTV. If my efforts were flagging, I knew a call from Doug would soon motivate me again !

He was a fine gentleman and an inspiration to us all. Without his early lead, NBTV probably wouldn't have evolved into the widely acknowledged (and fascinating) hobby it is today. It was my privilege to count him as a friend. He will be very sadly missed.

As Panrock says Doug was a gentleman.

Doug was a "fixture" at the annual convention and I always looked forward to meeting and chatting with him.

Invariably any "new" idea I had, Doug was able to gently remind me that it had been discovered or investigated before.

He was an invaluable link with the past.

I will miss him greatly.

I only spoke to Doug a few times but reiterate what has already been said.
He was the NBTVA Chairman and Secretary. Also the editor of our newsletter.
His passing is a big loss to NBTV.
