NBTV transmission test on FM

Postby DrZarkov » Wed Feb 06, 2008 2:30 am

"Achtung, Achtung! Hier Fernsehsender Herongen auf Welle 348 cm..."
Today I've got one of those "legal FM transmitters". It is a "Hama RTR-10" for about 10 EUR. First I've tested it with audio. It is working fine, not Hifi, but enough to bring a webstream from the computer to the radio in the kitchen. That was the next test: I have very good reception in the hole house! That's much more than the 3 meter those transmitters are supposed to transmit with their 50 mW. Next test was of course NBTV. I've connected the transmitter to my CD-player, and my radio to the laptop, because I wanted to make a screenshot of the picture.

The result is really very disappointing. I've expected not the best results, but this is really garbage. It's track 7 or 8 from the club CD No. 2:

Screen images.

I am just wondering if the images are out of phase, that is, that the pictures are negatives of the actual images. If this is true, perhaps reversing the input leads to the transmitter would rectify this.

No, that wasn't any help. The sync-strip is black, so that seems to be o.k. With automatic line (or frame) sync it is not working, you see nothing. The pictures is the Baird-system are slightly better.

I think the only improvement could be mono-signal, that means picture only.

'Insufficient LF response' and 'insufficient phase linearity with frequency' come to mind? Both are not so important with audio as with video.

I think the No1 CD would be better for testing, say tracks 17 etc.
Looks as though only every third line has a signal on it. ...turn up volumn of your CD?
