Steve, I had to read this 3 times before it sunk in. The date is not 1/4/24 either.
I'm so very sorry to see you go, a backbone of this forum for many years.
We both joined it in the same year.
You have helped so many of us, help with circuits and problems of my Edikow machine etc.

This forum has been very slack in recent months and your absence will not help to
revive it.

Yes, it has been a while, since 2007 and some 5000 posts. I'll continue to help with Steve O's current 90-line mirror-screw project where I can.

If anyone should wish to keep in contact my current e-mail address will be valid until Dec.1st 2024, I'll notify those interested when I create a new one. This is coincidentally due to my ISP discontinuing their e-mail service, not connected with my withdrawal here. However it may be just a scam, I guess it's possible. Time will tell.

I've only just noticed this. It's very sad news. Steve A has long been a stalwart here. Typical of him to continue to offer me support, even now. I am in awe of his technical skills and unstinting kindness.

Steve A, I hope you will reconsider. I think we all have periods when our enthusiasms flag. As for me, last year I came to the end of what I now view as "19 wasted years" trying to get 405 on the air in the London area, on its original channel. One day the story will be told. The reality of all the long distance motoring, only being able to transmit in calm weather, and the onset of Parkinson's - particularly the fatigue - didn't help. Then the council took umbrage over our masts. Take a look... well, would you want that thing overlooking your garden? Then of course, who would actually have watched the 'service'? A handful at best. In the end we got on the air in both vision and sound only briefly. And what about the efforts put in by the others involved? 19 wasted years...

I'll be honest... the new Mirror Screw is something of a make-work project. I find I still need to have 'something on the go'.

Anyway Steve A, always remember you're among friends.

I can relate to that. Now that 'real work' has all but finished for me, I need to keep occupied with something. NBTV with any 'spin-offs' is certainly plausible. I do have other activities unrelated to NBTV which can keep me occupied, though often the activity is dictated by other matters such as weather, logistics and the availability of others, along with my own general health-which is quite OK, but I am pushing 70, and I have to have a medicak every six months, how much longer will I continue to pass that?
I will continue my presence here as a mod, and perhaps assist where I can. If a nice 'juicey' project arises which I can sink my teeth into I'll have a go at it.

May be Steve A needs a brake , having a little brake from NBTV my self give me time to think about things .
Some times projects go no where as you mentioned Steve otgher times a great success like your past Mirror screw .
BTW i was shocked to find out there was a british mirror screw 1933,i always wondered why Baird never used the idea perhaps copy right ?

I have been Busy with my FB page and motorising my large satellite dish for the Clarke Belt most people use an actuator but was given 2 large drive way Gate openers one is fine for the polar mount .
BTW nice looking Antennas on that pole height is might !

That Baird mirror screw looks like it casts an image on to a screen. Karen always said I should try to do the same with mine.

Right now, I am being tempted by a 16-inch Dobsonian telescope that's on special offer. Trouble is, in the UK we don't have your Australian clear skies - or your exotic constellations. And also, I have been told I now have cataracts, though can't say I've noticed.

No its not a Baird one i don't think he ever used one that we know of ? its a Scophony, Rotating Echelon and looks like it uses square glass mirrors ? I know Scophony called there early mirror screws this ...yep a mirror screw to screen was another way to use it, i only recall the TEKADE mirror screw and Peter YANCZER's TEKADE replica .

BTW mentioned this once before i think below one says its back screen is a reflector photo looks the same but i thinks black painted had me wondering why !

Sorry to hear about the cataracts ! least that is fixable if it gets worse !

MY 16 year old son Charlie is very much into this as well i like it also but he kicks my arse on all this taking tracked astro photography photos just knows where every thing is in the sky ,took a photo of that comet thats in the sky now he took this one before you could see it with the naked eye ,He does all this on he's Nikon on a tracker i don't think he has tried hooking hes telescope to the camera due to no tracking onit . My Son says 16 inch Dobsonian is a seriously big Telescope hes impressed . He told me to show hes photos ; 0 )

He's very happy with that comment Amazing what you can do just with a camera and small zoom lens .
The Tracker is good , i suppose its the key for longer exposures.

Thanks now and again some thing interesting turns up Simon and Iain logie Baird Chris Long and a fair few other's have been a great help on the correct history of clippings photos ,having a page like that you do get both ends of the spectrum viewing and i notice depending on your likes U S viewers tend to just like their tv history and same UK or where you are from ,just see it in the likes and comments or lack of .

No, I haven't reversed my decision, I'll be around for some time to come....BUT, I've just spent a long time clearing out all the posts waiting for approval. There really were hundreds of them! Mostly 'dating' and 'hook-up' sites, the vast majority in the US. They're all gone now, I'll keep a closer eye on the 'Approval queue' in the future...

A sad reflection on the state of humanity....

Only two in the queue were on anything very very loosely connected with the subject matters covered here, but even those I deleted...seriously there were hundreds...that will free up some space...

But those I deleted I hopefully pointed in the right direction...e.g. "Can you help me fix my Grandmothers Radiogram?"

Radiograms, although often quite justly derided, are often a good source of valve/tube era components. Particularly transformers, (If you need/want high voltages....me!). If you're into medium sized CRTs (5" or more) you'll be needing these things...
