Unusual battery

Postby Andrew Davie » Tue Jul 18, 2017 12:16 am

I found the size and low voltage of this battery quite curious. It was in a box of new-looking units at the local tip-shop. Just 1.5V but 250Wh.

It looks like a modern equivalent of a "Flag Cell", as used in telephony (particularly local battery setups) in days gone by:

Even so, 250Wh when converted into the more familiar Ah is 167Ah. Most car batteries are around 1/2 to 1/3 that, though at 12V.

As it's called a 'Datacell' which implies RAM memory back-up, WOW! That must have been one heck of a memory array!

This appears to be their very simple web-site...

My first thought was also a latter day FLAG cell but clearly not so.

Looks like they're designed for some specialised applications where a battery change would be very hard: http://www.datawell.nl/

Wow, a Dutch company and specially made French batteries. This makes me proud of Europeese cooperation. Apparently batteries "Made in Brittain" are no more needed. They can go out.
