homemade audio tape

If a tree falls in the forest, can you use that tree for paper and draw a picture of that tree on the paper?
That's what I wanted to do here with magnetic tape.

LuTELLO,

That's an amazing piece of research and implementation.

Well done,

Hey that is brilliant!

Did you put the "rusty" side towards the head and how many times did you have to clean them!

Just a bizarre thought.

I wonder if you could swipe a recording head over the surface of the rusty steel and imprint a message in the surface in situ.

Not sure how you would confirm the recording though,

Cheers,

Graham

I shudder to think of the head-wear! But for a quick and dirty experiment with old heads, why not?

I always wondered about head-wear with wire recorders. Here's an interesting book on both wire and tape, perfect partner for NBTV...a lot of mechanics...(TapeWire.pdf)

Also another one which covers acoustical recording (discs and cylinders) as well as magnetic tape...(Read_recording.pdf)

These are quite large files, I'll leave them up for a couple of weeks, if anyone should miss them send me a PM or e-mail and I'll send them along...

Steve A.

Files removed, PM/e-mail me if you missed them.

Err...my available storage space is 1.3TB...it's getting near full at 1.17TB, but that includes everything, OS, apps. etc...

As a rule then Steve it might be better to approach you first for any info before Google!
