Prof. Karolus, the 10,000 lamp man

Postby Viewmaster » Fri Nov 02, 2012 12:31 am

I daresay we have all seen photos of Baird's 2,100 lamp display switched by that huge commutator.
Doing a bit of googling on this subject I came acoss a
german, Prof Karolus.

A search of this forum did not show Karolus so maybe many here are not familiar with this display which is 5 times the size of Baird's

Date is 1935. I cannot find how it was switched but valves are used.
100 channels, nine valves per channel.

Write up and a possible photo of the 2m x 2m screen attached.

So what's it to be for you? 80 transistors... or 900 valves ?

The electromagnetic spectrum has no theoretical limit at either end. If all the mass/energy in the Universe is considered a 'limit', then that would be the only real theoretical limit to the maximum frequency attainable.
