I don't know if its been thought of for NBTV i will try and explain ,bit busy with other stuff at the moment to try it .

I was looking into wireless power transfer circuits a high frequency oscillator to a power transistor to a coil and another coil a short distance with either just a led across it or a tuned circuit with cap and led cross the coil receiver .

Works fine just like a rotary transformer up to a tesla coil all the same sort of idea what had me interested was the question for our hobby if the high frequency oscillator has the bandwidth and say using a 555 and we modulate the thing with nbtv and send this to the simple led coil receiver which could be an led in a Nipkow disk hole as it rotates each led with its own little coil would light and be modulated as it crossed the path of the transmitting coils field .

The problem of rotating a number leds one for each line as for say a Led Nipkow or drum ,you could have some thing like a rotary transformer to power some rotating electronics or an on board battery which drive the led's or a commutator of some sort its a bit noisy and or complicated .

The idea might work well with the led idea like on my old clear led disk but with flat no lens leds as in pictures no holes needed just a mask might even be enough light to make a projection monitor with a lens .

The electromagnetic spectrum has no theoretical limit at either end. If all the mass/energy in the Universe is considered a 'limit', then that would be the only real theoretical limit to the maximum frequency attainable.

The only problem that i would think that you would have with it is one coil for an led picking up the signal for the other.

OH thats a little problem to the one you would have trying to get signals to 32 leds either mechanically or via on board electronics ....like those rotating displays this way it does away with the electronics and powering that.

The bead or lens disk is more elegant in just using a light behind and focusing it to a point...but it is what it is just another of the many ways to make a mechanical tv :wink:
