I am planning to use the laser, but i am still currently working on the jeffree cell that i started making a few years ago. it has been a slow going, non stop project, that i have recently sped up a bit. If i get the laser to work, than i will probably move to the jeffree cell after that. I have managed to get a typical sized 10 mhz crystal to work, by scaling down the jeffree cell to about half the original dimensions, and have not tested it this far as to see if it will produce results.
Its a hard one Johnrpm looked into this a few years ago as well ,i don't know if you have reviewed the forum but heres the link

Yes wise to go with the laser so much easier without all the optics ,you need a laser without the regulator circuit as that will just filter out the video ,it was my big mistake trying a mirror drum idea years back now .just use the laser diode /
2 drum mirror drums are easier to get going than a standard mirror drum which is a pain all you have to do is get the line mirror drum to correct sync speed and with just about any speed the framing mirror will at least give you an image from slow speed up as far as aspect ratio and and correct framing speed that you can work out later ,i have done all this with manual speed controls so syncing like that is even possible .
You will get it going you will more than likely need a more powerful laser more lines dimmer the raster and this gos beyond any thing i have ever tried remember distance drops that as well ...there are perhaps 2 or 3 i know that have tried the idea for 525 625 line mechanical mirror drum television running at every 2nd line so half that line rate .also with 2 drums you can have a multi system monitor well worth working on it .
The electromagnetic spectrum has no theoretical limit at either end. If all the mass/energy in the Universe is considered a 'limit', then that would be the only real theoretical limit to the maximum frequency attainable.
