I need some electronics advice. I have moved house and along with the house comes a garden mulcher (Yardeco Recycler 2000).
The mulcher doesn't work, and when powered up the control box starts smoking. The smoke is coming from one or both large capacitors inside.
One is a CBB60, and the other a CD60.
Markings are hard to make out, but it looks like
CBB60 / 40uF +/-5%
450VAC ... 50???? (Hz????)
CD60
200uF ...????.....-+30%
300VAC 50/60Hz
So, Ihave a few questions.
Firstly, I'm treating them as dangerous. It looks like the smoke was coming from the CD60 but I assume both.
1) Why would they be smoking - is it possible if the engine was siezed or too hard to turn?
2) I should use a resistor to discharge them, right? Before attempting removal.
3) There are a bunch on eBay of these types - I assume it is OK to buy something with similar specs. But failing finding the exact specs...
4) If the CD60 is 300V, can I replace with one labeled 450V but same nF, or is this a no-no?
5) Should I just give this up and find someone competent to do it?
Thanks
A
