Here some pictures of La Cinq. It was a private channel owned by Berlusconi, with lots of movies and telefilms and news reports. The channel has only a few transmitters and spent too much money. It ended in big problems. In 1990 it was sold to Hachette group, but the problem was not sold. They fired half of the employees. The newscaster Jean-Claude Bourret started an association to save the channel in early 1992 ( and it still exists ). But at the end the judge said that the channel has to close down.
It was 20 years ago, day for day.

After this the association made many attemps to create a new channel on satellite and internet, but never succeeded. Some said there was money problems too.

After the end of La Cinq, the governement choose another channel Arte, wich is about culture. But it only start at 7pm.
So in 1994 they created La Cinquième ( now France 5 ) for the day programms. The programms are made of documentaries.
With digital transmission they took two different channels for France 5 and Arte.
Those are public channels and have nothing in common with La Cinq.

The archives of La Cinq are keep by l'Institut National de l'Audiovisuel. The INA only keep archives from public channels, but La Cinq is the only private channel to end there because there was no other place.

Lots of jurnalists of La Cinq moved on other channels like TF1, France3, LCI, Canal + and radios too like RMC.

The last day of this channel was full of emotion and the black screen for months was very disturbing.
