If you are not alreay aware of "Steampunk" as a genre, then you probably should be -- because in my opinion mechanical television fits right in with the general theme.

Back to the Future part 3 had a bit of steampunk style in it, I think. Remember Doc Emmet Brown's inventions back in the 1880s? The use of victorian manufacturing techniques with 'modern' technology. I recall a movie named 'Young Einstein' with a bit of steampunk-style technology, too.

A wearable mechanical television would out-do all of these :)

Funny that you mention it! I'm writing regulary at the forum at www.brassgoggles.co.uk under the nickname "Prof. Erwin Lindemann". And I'm not the only one from here who you can find there :-)

I particularly like the keyboard with typewriter-style keys and function keys with roman numerals.
