Send NBTV through a laser pen. Make a CRT etc

Anything not specifically related to NBTV, but at least of some technical nature that might be of interest to NBTV members. Items for sale and links to retailers do not belong here.

Make your own CTR....... Down to 3mm dia!!!
Make your own valves too.

Send audio (NBTV) modulated on a laser pen beam. (link near page bottom) So simple to do.

Very interesting site.

As much as I'm fasinated by CRTs I don't think I'll attempt to make my own!

Optical communication is another area of interest for me. I started out using lasers in much the same manner. Two problems were encontered, firstly ambient light, for long distances you need to be outside and it needs to be nighttime.

Secondly, such a simple system was quite noisy, but it's worth having a go.

With a better modulation system we've been able to get line-of-sight links up to 7km. For greater distances we have to travel about 150km to reach the nearest hills, Bangkok and this province are ruler flat, it once was part of the rivers' delta.

We would like to use some of the taller buildings in town, but getting permission to conduct 'experiments' proved fruitless.

If interested in optical communications, I found the attatched handbook on the 'net some time ago.

Added later....also have a look at Chris Longs' (recent new member) excellent website.

Yes, that site you linked to has some quite whacky ideas...

Why do I also keep making the same typo? CTR instead of CRT.
