12 volt JK flip flop ?

Postby Viewmaster » Sat May 03, 2008 12:26 am

I wish to divide the NBTV sync pulses by 2 using a JK flip flop. ( I believe this is the correct type).
I hope to power it from my existing 12v NBTV supply.
One I have found is the 7473 but this is only 5v working.
So, does anyone know of a suitable 12v flip flop I can buy, please?
Albert.

Use a circuit out of the 4000 series. They work on 3....15 volt, so too on 12V.
Do you really need a J-K flipflop? I don't know the number any more, as they are used almost never. The D-fipflop 4013 can also be used as a divider by two, if you connect the D-input to its own Q-not output. And don't forget to connect the Set and RESET inputs to ground (zero).

you could also just build one from transistors, or logic gates that you have already (if you have a stock of components of course!) a flip flop woul only be I think four transistors. (or two and gates, which you mat have a chip lying around perhaps)

Albert, did you get your divide-by-two circuit sorted out?

Steve, thanks for asking ....
The trouble I am having (an old bone of contention here as usual) is not being able to sync.
My Edikow cylinder is revolving at 2 frames per sec. (64 sync holes per rev)
I have a 3.5 inch dia. 64 tooth sync wheel which will not sync.
SO, I was about to try blanking out every other hole, divide the sync from the CD player by 2 to see if that would improve matters.
Hence my query about divide by 2.
Before trying this though I have done this.....

My original sync wheel was made out of steel and was not well drilled.
Vic Brown kindly sent me some small darvic offcuts and I have now made an accurate 64 tooth sync wheel, with 1/32 inch dia holes.

The wheel gives me nice pulses, but the o/p from the 4046 is very erratic, compared with, say, an oscillator 400 hertz injection into the 4046 instead of the o/p from the wheel.

Unlike a NBTV disc which smooths out irregularities my Edikow mandrel doesn't seem to, so it may be this is causing the sync pulses from my 3.5 inch disc not giving me a constant timed pulse.......
... On my scope there does seem some sideways movement of the sq wave as the wheel rotates.....back to the drawing board maybe?

These things are sent to try us, so they say!
