Modern Crater Lamps for sale

Postby Marcus » Sat Oct 29, 2011 10:19 pm

Hello all,

I have a box of modern 'crater lamps' these were used in faxes before hollow-state went the way of the ghost.

They fire up at around 300v from memory use series resistor to limit current, I will test each one before I send it anyway.

i always intended to use these for mirror drum displays or similar.

I have more than I could ever use so $10 each for NBTVA members.

They have octal bases.

Hi Mark,

I got your shipment of crater lamps a while ago, and finally got around to try them. It turns out they are identical to a RCA 901 I have, which has an aperture of about .02 inch.

My lens disk is 9 inches in diameter, with 45 lenses. That means the spacing between lenses (and width of the picture) is about .6 inches. It you divide .6 by .02, you get 30. To resolve 45 lines, I need a smaller aperture.

If I put the lamp in the proper place behind the lens, I get a spot about 1/4 inch diameter on the 6 inch square viewing screen.

So, unfortunately this approach won't work. Thanks very much for sending me the tubes, though.

Hi
I am interested in purchasing 1 of 2 of your Crater Lamps if you have any remaining. I live near San Francisco. We can continue this conversation over email if okay with you. Thanks Al
