The electromagnetic spectrum has no theoretical limit at either end. If all the mass/energy in the Universe is considered a 'limit', then that would be the only real theoretical limit to the maximum frequency attainable.

Some time ago I came across a site with home-built Enigma machines, sadly and rather unusually I didn't bookmark it.

Of course an Enigma machine can be emulated in a micro with a few pages of code. I did see a version written in Basic many years ago for the old BBC B computer. No, I don't have a copy...
