Power Supply Surprises

Centralised area for notes about construction projects. Each project has its own sub-forum. In the sub-forums will be topics relevant to parts of that project (e.g., there might be a topic on motor control). If you start a construction diary, just post in the forum with your project name as the topic, and a moderator will create a sub-forum for your project.

Power Supply Surprises

Postby FlyMario » Mon Sep 28, 2020 7:22 am

Man, this MTV has a much heavier disk on it. Aluminum vs the Vinyl record I had on my first one. I figured a computer power supply would be great as it would supply the 12v and 5v that I need. When the motor turns on it actually shuts down my Arduino. When powering the Arduino from another supply keeps it rock solid and the motor spins up fine. I even put some decent caps on the board to prevent brownout limited success.

As a side note... want to fry a microcontroller (ATMEGA328) chip very very quickly... forget to put a diode across the motor. Thank goodness I used a ZIF socket.
